The new facilities will house 400 sq. m. clean rooms equipped with industrial molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) systems for mass production of epitaxial heterostructures based on gallium arsenide. The heterostructures that will be grown will be used in high-speed (up to 40 Gbit/s) active optical components, namely, vertical-cavity surface emitting lasers and photodetectors.
The roadmap “The use of nanotechnologies in the manufacturing of Light-emitting diodes” describes the different types of light-emitting devices and compares their possible market future with trends observed currently in the light-emitting diodes (LED) segment. It also shows the most promising directions for further development of LED technology and points out the required support measures which include the development of necessary infrastructure and R&D.
