Moscow State Institute of International Relations. Graduated in 1968.

Work experience:
From 1968, worked at various diplomatic posts in the central apparatus of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and abroad: in Afghanistan, the U.S., the Philippines. In 1991-1992 he worked as a Russian ambassador in New Zealand, introducing concurrently Russia in Western Samoa, Kingdom of Tonga and the Cook Islands in the State.
In 1992-1995 -- Ambassador of Russia in Australia and concurrently in Fiji, Vanuatu and Nauru.
In 1995-1997 was the chief of the general management of problems of the Asia-Pacific region of MFA of Russia.
In 1997 he was appointed as director 2 Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
Since March 1999 - Director of General Secretariat (Department), General Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
In March 2000, by the decree of the Russian President appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. Supervised Russian relations with the countries of Asia and the Pacific.
March 2, 2004 by the decree of the Russian President appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Japan. May 17, 2004 presented his credentials to Emperor Akihito of Japan.
In January 2007 upon returning from Japan again took the post of Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. In this capacity, continued to oversee relations with the countries of Asia and the Pacific, issues of multilateral cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, including cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He headed the Russian delegation at the six-party talks on Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
March 27, 2008 by the decree of the Russian President Vladimir Putin relieved of his post of Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs in connection with the transition to another job.

Has the diplomatic rank of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador.
Since 2003 - Honoured diplomatic service of the Russian Federation.
In 2008, awarded a medal "For Services to the Motherland" of IV degree

RUSNANO was founded in March 2011 as an open joint stock company through reorganization of state corporation Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies. RUSNANO's mission is to develop the Russian nanotechnology industry through co-investment in nanotechnology projects with substantial economic potential or social benefit. The Government of the Russian Federation owns 100 percent of the shares in RUSNANO. Anatoly Chubais is CEO and chairman of the Executive Board of RUSNANO.

Work to establish nanotechnology infrastructure and training for nanotechnology specialists, formerly conducted by the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies, has been entrusted to the Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs, a non-commercial fund also established through reorganization of the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies.
